The forward-gear clutch is closed and the reverse-gear clutch released. The planet carrier, planet gears, internal gear and sun gear circulate as a single block and drive the secondary V-pulley via the primary V-pulley and pushbelt or link chain. The secondary pulley directs the torque to the output shaft. The input shaft, primary and secondary V-pulleys and output shaft all rotate in the same direction. Selector-lever position R (Reverse). The forward-gear clutch is released and the reverse-gear clutch closed. This brakes the internal gear on the transmission housing. The planet-gear pairs driven via the planet carrier reverse the direction of rotation. Advantages of the CVT Engines do not develop constant power at all speeds; they have specific speeds where torque, horsepower and fuel efficiency are at their highest levels. Because there are no gears to tie a given road speed directly to a given engine speed, the CVT can vary the engine speed as needed to access maximum power as well as maximum fuel efficiency. This allows the CVT to provide quicker acceleration than a conventional automatic or manual transmission while delivering superior fuel economy. Fully Automated Manual Commercial Vehicle Transmissions Automated manual commercial vehicle transmissions have had top level automation since the end of the 1990s. This level of automation is characterised by an automated moving-off element, automated clutch engagement in gearshifting, automated gear change and data communication between the engine control unit and the transmission control unit.
