Conversion What is conversion in translation? By conversion（词性/类转换）, we mean converting/changing the parts of speech of words in translation. A word in the source language is not always translated into one of the same part of speech and in many cases, the translator should use conversion. Owing to the syntactic (句法的) differences between English and Chinese, it’s sometimes impossible for the translator not to convert the That is to say, the parts of speech of some words in the source language have to be converted, in order to produce a readable and coherent sentence. In practical translation work, words in the source text may be converted into words identical in meaning but different in parts of speech and the word order may also be changed.
