Space Exploration Part B. Text 1background information Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin (Russian: Ю?рий Алексе?евич Гага?рин) Hero of the Soviet Union, was a Soviet cosmonaut. On 12?April 1961, he became the first human in outer space and the first to orbit the Earth. He received medals from around the world for his pioneering tour in space. Space Exploration Why: Human beings are curious about the earth, the moon, the planets, the sun etc. What : Manned and unmanned space vehicles ventured far beyond the boundaries of the earth to collect information about the universe. Experiences: Human beings have visited the moon and have lived in space station for long periods. Significance: Helps us see the earth in its true relation to the rest of the universe.
