On August 28 1963, Martin Luther King led 250,000 people, both Blacks and Whites, gathered down the Mall in Washington. Standing in front of Abraham Lincoln’s statue, King delivered one of the memorable speeches of the century entitled, “I Have A Dream”.
;In 1964, Congress passed the first series of Civil Rights Acts(民权法案), which marked the success of the movement.
The law protested the voting rights and increased the educational opportunities of minority people. It also stated that no federal money would be given to any business, employers or labor union, which discriminated against people because of their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, age, disability or national origin.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission was established to enforce fair labor practice.
