Speaker Notes: A good rule of thumb is that you should end up with approximately 10 elements on your SOS Once we have broken elements down by location and product grouping, we can look at the duration of the element. An element should not be too small in time or too long in time. It is difficult to transfer big or small chunks. This makes the work much more difficult to improve. A good rule of thumb is that it is approximately 10% of the actual takt time. This is normally the last of the guidelines to be applied or used to evaluate our chunking. It is used more as a check and balance to see if we have significantly deviated from common sense. If we have 50 elements that are all around 2% of the ATT or 3 elements that are all around 30% of the ATT, we need to go back and evaluate whether we’re chunking the elements properly.
