* * As every monitoring application is different also the choice of the sensor will be different. Key factors here are the size of the project, the type of the expected movement and the required accuracy of the results. Let’s have a look at the two main survey sensors! [click] Optical total stations have the advantage that they are very precise instruments. They can deliver real-time results with millimeter accuracy. In addition to this a lot of points can be observed with only one unit. On the other hand-side they are limited in range. [click] GNSS sensors instead can be used over long distances without direct line of sight. The high data rate allows updating the results very frequently. The disadvantage is that the real-time accuracy is lower and one GNSS receiver can only observe one single point. * But not only different sensors are required for different monitoring applications, also the approach, the concept is different. For all these concepts Trimble offers a suitable solution. [click] The simplest way of monitoring is by repeating measurements with the standard instrument and field software. Data can be collected as required, once a day, once a week, once a year, and it can be analyzed directly in the field. [click] If the project is bigger or running over a long period of time, it is probably a good idea to manage the collected data with an office software. Option 1 allows post-processing and analyzing of optical total station data. [click] Option 2 will be used whenever an automated, remotely managed system is required. It allows the user to collect optical data in real-time and/or postprocess GNSS data. Also integrated processing is available. [click] Option 3 now adds real-time GNSS processing to the system.
