VDI, or virtual desktop infrastructure, is just one of the many desktop optimization strategies available to customers. In a VDI scenario, desktops (OS and applications) are stored and executed in a server within the data center, thereby using computing resources of the server. These virtual desktops are accessed from client devices via remote desktop protocols such as RDP. Microsoft is not new to delivering a centralized desktop experience as TS has been delivering this capability for 12+ yrs. But TS has its limitations, and there are users and scenarios that TS isn’t the best fit for. So how is VDI different from Terminal services?
