Unit 4 listening and speaking: Asking the way lesson plan 江苏省吴中中等专业学校 王萍 Teaching aims Aims for Knowledge Students will master some important words and expressions of asking and showing the way. Aim for Capability Students will improve their skills, especially the abilities of speaking and listening. Aims for Emotions Students will have a better understanding of the importance of learning English well, because it’s really practical in daily life. Teaching background Suzhou has become an international city; students have more and more chances to meet foreigners. It’s quite necessary for them to learn asking and showing the way, to introduce the city. Ss in grade1 are active and interested in speaking and performing, but with weak vocabulary and grammar equipment. Teaching focus: key words, expressions and patterns of showing and asking the way Excuse me,could you tell me the way to…? Excuse me, where is …? Excuse me, how can I get to…? Excuse me, which is the way to …? Between…and….; Next to/ beside; on the left of…; in front of/ behind Go along/ down / straight; walk down Turn right/ left on the second turning Walk two blocks. ------How far is it from here? ------It’s.... (miles) from here. ------How long will it take me if I walk there? -------It will take you ... (time) to get there. You’d better take a bus/taxi/subway. Get on / off at... Teaching difficult points: Students will be requested to ask and show the ways by using speaking and listening skills. Teaching approaches: task-based approach communicative approach cooperative approach Teaching equipment: 1.
