The Declaration of Independence (1776) is at once the nations most cherished symbol of liberty and Jeffersons most enduring monument.. “We must all now hang together, or we will all surely hang separately.” ‘我等而今务须生死与共,否则定遭各别处决。’ We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. ? 我等之见解为,下述真理不证自明:凡人生而平等,秉造物者之赐,拥诸无可转让之权利,包含生命权、自由权、与追寻幸福之权。 我们认为下述真理是不言而喻的:人人生而平等,造物主赋予他们若干不可让与的权利,其中包括生存权、自由权和追求幸福的权利。 That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.
