The relation between demonstrate word meaning and motivation
1. Introduction
For understanding the connection of word meaning and motivation, we should the clearly understand the concept of both of them first.
As the relationship between the word form and meaning is conventional and arbitrary, the connection of the sign and meaning in most words does not have a logical explanation. Only a few words could be recognized as being motivated to a certain extent.
2. Word meaning
Word meaning can be defined as a reciprocal relation between name and meaning. “Meaning” is what the form stands for. Such as “desk”, it means something you sit and you do your work. The word meaning can be divided into several types.
1. Grammatical meaning
Grammatical meaning refers to that part of meaning which indicates grammatical relationships or functions, such as tense meaning, singular meaning, etc. Words with the similar lexical meaning can have different grammatical meanings, and words with different lexical meanings can have the same grammatical meaning. Grammatical meaning is in use.
It consists of word-class and inflectional paradigm.
1) Word-class: It describes the words lexicological meaning and also gives what is traditionally known as the part of speech of the word.?When a dictionary lists the function of a word, the definition does at least two things. It describes the word’s lexical meaning and also gives what is traditionally known as the part of speech of the word, which modern linguists call the word-class. The word-class is essential, because when we use a word in a sentence, we have to take into consideration two factors: its specific lexical meaning and the position it normally occupies in a sentence, which is determined by the word-class to which the word belongs
2) Inflectional paradigm which refers to the grammatical forms of a word which appear the different forms when used in actual speech.?
