Margaret began writing it in 1926 ,when she was recovering from an injury.During the time,her husband encouraged her to write something interesting. So she began thinking over and finished it in 1935.The novel was released to the public in June 1936.Then it lead to a great hit.Next year,Margaret recieved the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction(普利策奖）.Though Gone with the wind is the only novel by Margaret published during her lifetime,it does bring her big achievement. Background: The story took place in the state of Georgia(佐治亚州) south of United States during the American Civil War and Reconstruction(重建). The title is from the first line of the third stanza of the poem 《Non Sum Qualis Eram Bonae sub Regno Cynarae》 by Ernest Dowson: I have forgot much, Cynara! gone with the wind, Flung roses, roses riotously with the throng, Dancing, to put thy pale, lost lilies out of mind... Scarlett is from a wealthy Irish immigrant family.Her father is the Irish and owns a cotton plantation named Tara.Her mother is a Frenchwoman from noble family.And she has two little sisters Carreen and Suellen.
