第1讲中国翻译史研究简述概要

Tao-te-ching 道可道,非常道。名可名,非常名。无名,万物之始也;有 名,万物之母也。故恒无欲也,以观其眇⑧;恒有欲也,以 观其所徼。两者同出,异名同谓。玄之又玄,众眇之门。 The Way that can be spelt out is not the constant Way. The name that can be named is not the constant name. Nothingness is the name of the beginning of the world. Substance is the name of the mother of all things. Tao-te-ching 信言不美,美言不信。善者不辩,辩者不善。知者不博,博 者不知。圣人不积,既以为人己愈有,既以与人己愈多。天 之道,利而不害。圣人之道,为而不争。 Trustworthy words are not beautiful; beautiful words are not trustworthy. The Analects 子曰:“巧言令色,鲜矣仁。” The Master said, “Clever words and hypocritical manners can hardly be part of true virtue.” The Analects “子曰:弟子,入则孝,出则悌,谨而信,泛爱众,而亲仁。行有余力,则以学文。” The Master said, “ A young man (or student) should practice filial piety at home. Outside his home, he should be polite and respectful towards his elders. He should be prudent and sincere, and he should be kind to all people and treasure the friendship of the benevolent. When he has cultivated and practiced all these virtues ,he can then devote his energy to refined studies. The Analects 子夏曰:“贤贤易色;事父母,能竭其力;事君,能致其身;与朋友交,言而有信。虽曰未学,吾未必之学矣。” Zi Xia said, “ If a man turns his mind from the love of women to respect for the man of virtue, if he tries his utmost to serve his parents, if he devotes his life to the service of his prince, and if he keeps his words with his friends, then, even if others say that he lacks education, I would certainly call him a learned man.” The Analects 子曰:“质胜文则野,文胜质则史。文质彬彬,然后君子。” The Master said, “ When substance outweighs attention to form and beauty, there is the coarseness of the unmannered; when attention to form and beauty outweighs substance, there is the pedantry of a scribe. Only when attention to form and beauty and substance are equally blended do we get the man of virtue. The Analects 子贡问政。子曰:“足食,足兵,民信之矣。” 子贡曰:必 不得已而去,于斯三者何先?”曰:“去兵。” 子贡曰:必 不得已而去,于斯二者何先?”曰:“去食。自古皆有 死, 民无信不立。” The Analects Zi Gong sought to learn about government. The Master said, “ The esse
