* Cutting tissue may seem routine, but is is anything but that. We are dealing with a wide variety of tissue types and lesion types, and we are attempting to assure we cut, not tear, the tissue to minimize trauma. The Tissue Stop provides a surface to cut beyond. The stop allows the cutter to travel a short distance past the tissue to eliminate the potential for a “Tissue Tag” to occur, and to minimize the potential for tearing of the tissue or it not severing completely. Constant rotation speed of the cutter is maintained throughout the sampling process, and Closed Loop control of the translational speed is calculated based on tissue resistance. Over the course of time we have found the optimal speed for rotational and translation which has led to consistent samples regardless of the tissue type. Cutter Sharpness and durability has been refined over time such that today we see consistency from first sample to last regardless of the tissue type. EES utilizes an electro-honing process which provides the optimal cutting edge, while also polishing the inner surface to minimize any twisting of the sample during the cutting process. The Angled Bowl geometry was developed to act as a “scissor” and to assure the proximal and distal edges of the sample are as clean as the center portion. A time Delay has been incorporated at Position 4 to assure that the cutter has fully severed tissue before beginning to transport the specimen * (Kleenex analogy) The name ‘Mammotome’ has literally become synonymous with VAB procedures. It’s very flattering, and deserving, because we know above all, it’s because Mammotome’s innovative design defines the biopsy space.
