超輕薄6µm鋁箔之開發* Development of Super-thin 6µm Aluminum Foils 1 2 3 H.C. Shih, C.Y. Yu, P.W. Chen Aluminum foils have been widely used in packaging industry, mainly due to their excellent moisture-proof and light weight. Moreover, the production costs of foils can be largely lowered while further reducing their thickness because of extended applicable area or length. However, the problems of pinhole, strip-breaking and surface hair line will thus be introduced, resulting in bad quality and lower production rate. Through this study, coarse grains, insufficient ductility, internal and external defects and uneven foil profiles have been found to be responsible for the above problems. Based on these findings, in order to improve materials properties, melt purification, grain refinement and casting conditions were adjusted together with the development of metallurgical processes for rolling and annealing. The three-dimensional finite element model for foil rolling was also established to improve its flatness. In addition, the instability in quality resulting from various external defects in production lines has been eliminated. After solving the above problems, China ≤6.0µm Steel Aluminum Corporation has already produced successfully super-thin aluminum foils of ≤6.0µm thickness, whose four 500 / quality indexes have achieved the levels of advanced aluminum m2 10mm 3
