Fresno County Preliminary Gang Prevention Assessment, 2008 Never Give Up! Fresno County Gang Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Initiative Introduction Fresno County Gang Prevention Initiative Assessment This represents a preliminary look at an assessment for the County of Fresno Gang Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Initiative. The information was collected between January and July 2008 based on the Assessment Guide outline from the Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention Comprehensive Gang Model. It does not include all sections/information recommended in the model, but rather a sampling to provide community members a launch pad to identify specific local data needs. An assessment is done to provide the community and steering committee members with information to better understand the nature and scope of the gang problem so they may leverage and align existing resources to meet the communities need. In addition the assessment can assist in developing a road map that will outline where to seek new resources and funding partners. The document is designed to not only solicit data needs, but to solicit the questions that every community must ask itself when addressing gang activity and whether or not the information needed to answer those questions is available as well as what systems need to be in place to make them available. The assessment not only looks at gang demographic data, but also looks at resources that make up a healthy community as outlined in Figure 1.
