从《西风颂》看雪莱的自由主义 Shelley’s Liberalism as Seen in Ode to the West Wind Abstract The European Revolution broke out in 1848. There were impoverished people who strived for the freedom everywhere. In this environment when Shelley was a child he was rebellious. He pursued the individual freedom, the freedom of which is the common goal of people in his era. He merged the two into a whole. For this reason, he has endured the pains that the ordinary people could not have endured. At the time of the social unrest environment,Shelley’s living condition and his characters all influenced Shelley’s psychological change and development. In pursuit of freedom Shelley strayed from Field Place, the place where he was born, to Ireland, to Italy and to Rome which are the places he visited, and these experiences also are the road of the development of his mind . In Ode to the West Wind, Both the poetry language and the imagrys all reflected Shelley’s liberalism. The celebrated final line of the poem, ?If winter comes, can spring be far behind? has often been cited to illustrate Shelley’s optimistic belief in the future of mankind. Everything is reflected that liberalism is Shelley’s soul; Shelley’s short life is to pursue his freedom in life.
