The King is killed and Simba is led to believe by Scar that it was his fault, and so flees the kingdom in shame. Befriended (帮助) by a host of warm-hearted characters (Timon and Pumbaa), Simba experiences some of life’s most glorious moments and toughest challenges. After years of exile (流放), he is persuaded to return home to overthrow the usurper (篡位者) and claim the kingdom as his own, thus completing “The Circle of Life”. But before he can take his rightful place as ruler of the proud land, Simba must overcome great fear and adversity (逆境), climaxed (达到高潮) by a blazing battle with his tricky uncle, Scar. The Lion King is the first Disney animated (动画) feature not based on an existing story. In another sense, it is based on half the stories in classical mythology (神话). It tells the tale of the birth, childhood and eventual manhood of Simba, a lion cub (仔兽). The cubs birth is announced in the opening sequence of the movie, called The Circle of Life, which is an evocative (引起回忆或感情的) collaboration (结合) of music and animation to show all of the animals of the African veldt (南非无林草原) gathering to hail (高呼) their future king. The cute (聪明伶俐的) little cub is held aloft (高高地) from a dramatic spur (山嘴，石嘴) of rock, and all this is like a political rally (集会). All through The Lion King the filmmakers perform a balancing act between the fantasy of their story and the reality of the jungle.
