There are 106 free-field strong motion stations in the Taipei area and 67 stations in the Ilan area. The collected strong motion data and the results of instrument examination have been sent to the Seismology Center, Central Weather Bureau after each field work in every four months. A total of 1788, 329, and 312 waveforms were recorded and collected in the three field works, respectively, during this year. Two earthquakes which occurred in Ilan at 19:6 and 19:8, 5 March 2005 are the remarkable events in the Taiwan area in 2005. Epicenters of these two earthquakes with magnitude 5.9 and 6.0, respectively, were located closely. No damage to buildings was reported during these two earthquakes.
