Analysis on feminism in Doris Lessing’s the Golden Notebook Doris Lessings work that explores mental and societal breakdown. The book also contains a powerful anti-war and anti-Stalinist message, an extended analysis of communism and the Communist Party in England from the 1930s to the 1950s, and a famed examination of the budding sexual and womens liberation movements. In 2005, the novel was chosen by TIME magazine as one of the 100 best English-language novels since 1923. Reviews on the Golden Notebook The Golden Notebook is the masterpiece of Doris Lessing, on English female novelist. It also has called the Bible of Feminist Annas four notebooks Theme womens struggles with the conflicts of work, sex, love, maternity, and politics. Writing techniques Omniscient Third Person Narration Omniscient narrator seems to impose its author’s subjective commentary on characters and events, thus “playing God” in a novel. The important function of the omniscient narrator lies in its direct explanation and comments on the very root of the tragedy and reminding the reader of the disastrous impact the collective exerts on the individual. Reasons about Lessings feminism Freudian psychology Jungian psychology Laingianism and most importantly Sufism .The former three theories are directed towards the unconscious,or the irrational part of human beings.Lessing fathoms this part of human psyche in the form of madness or schizophrenia in most of her important works. Sufism stresses the evolution of humankind through the efforts of individual person. It provides a best if not perfect model for the relationship between the individual and the collective,a relationship that pervades almost all of Lessing’s work.Sufism believes that “the complete Man...is both a real individuality and also a total part of the essential unity.”This relationship is what Lessing desires for the resting point between the individual and the collective.
