TRADE POLICY REVIEW 贸易政策审议 REPORT BY THE SECRETARIAT 秘书处报告 Fiji 斐济 This report, prepared for the third Trade Policy Review of Fiji, has been drawn up by the WTO Secretariat on its own responsibility. This report was drafted in English. 请注意:斐济贸易政策审议机构会议的第一部分结束之前,本报告限制流通且禁止公布。本报告以英语起草。 SUMMARY 摘要 The economy of Fiji has performed well since its second Trade Policy Review in 2009, based on a relatively open trade regime, sound macroeconomic policies, and structural reforms. Fijis return to parliamentary democracy in 2014, after successful elections put an end to almost eight years of interim government, has further boosted its investment and growth prospects. Fijis reliance on trade and tourism make it vulnerable to external shocks, while high transportation costs (poor infrastructure and remoteness), the small size of its economy, and the frequency of natural disasters also constrain its economic growth prospects. Further reforms are therefore necessary to reduce the bottlenecks in the economy, strengthen its resilience to shocks, foster competitiveness, improve the investment climate, and raise potential GDP gr
