Introduction For a long time, English teaching in our country has excessively laid emphasis on students’ cognition and neglected affective factors in English learning. It brings into the lack of students’ learning interest. In order to solve this problem, we should find the effective methods in language teaching. There are many approaches in English teaching, for example, situational approach, task-based method, silent method and communicative method and so on. These methods have many benefits for learners. Among these methods, the situational approach can arouse and develop student’s interest. The students will be more active and improve their practical ability. The situational approach was originally called oral approach, which was developed by British applied linguists from the 1930’s to 1960’s, and this method was first used in business English, and then this method has been adopted in Chinese schools. Relevant date shows that the adoption of the situational approach abroad has made great achievements and has many merits. As for English teaching of the middle school, it pays to focus attention on the situational approach. Till now it has got great achievements in the English teaching of middle school.?? The concrete situations originate from social practice, and it is a product of people’s daily lives. It emphasizes the integration of the dynamic process and the life situation, pays great attention to students’ understanding of life, pays great attention to students’ ability of development in the active process, and stimulates their interest from various activities. It helps students to understand the teaching materials and develop students’ psychological functions through the situation which can produce vivid images.
