Unit Two Success Stories
Period One
Aims: 1. to provide some background information about stories of some successful figures
2. to skim and scan the text and to finish the exercises A and B so that Ss can get a general idea of the text
Procedures:
I. Presentation:
By asking students some questions, teacher leads the students to today’s topic: success stories.
You must know some famous people. Can you name any? … Just now, you mentioned a lot of famous people from all over the world. They are all successful figures. Would you please open your books and turn to page 19? Look at the pictures. They are pictures of successful men or women. Do you know any of them? But can you also tell the success stories about them? Today, we are going to learn the first unit: Success Stories.
Picture talk:
1. T: there are five pictures of five famous people. They are Helen Keller, Zhang Haidi, Mandela, Michelangelo and Beethoven. Can you match them with the pictures?
2. Fill in the form in ExerciseA2on page 20. (group work)
Notes: T should walk around and give help to students. Then teacher should elicit some information from the students first. Make sure that before Ss fill in the form, teacher should provide some necessary words that are needed in Exercise A2. eg:master of art, president, imprison, disabled, mute, persevere.
Finish Exercise A3.
Finish Exercise A4.
Homework:
Listen to the tape and read the text.
Answer the remaining questions in Ex B on P2.
Preview the new vocabulary and prepare for tomorrow’s vocabulary test.
