Abstract Xian is a world famous ancient city which has a long history and splendid culture. This city has its own unique characteristics in development, not only plays a decisive role in the history of Chinese, but also affects the construction of other overseas countries. But under the globalization of these days, people often see the same streets, plazas and buildings everywhere. The city and architecture of Xian are suffering from erosion, and the heritage of the regional characteristics of architecture is challenged. Therefore, the research of the regional and creative method about the urban street interface design becomes very urgent and important. Although there are some researches on the street interface design in our country, the research bases on the architectural typology theory is still very limited. Through expounding the utilizing of the architectural typology theory on the street interface design, this paper provides the theoretical basis and practical mode for the city’s street interface design. This in a sense not only expands the practical scope of architectural typology, but also introduces new design ideas for the urban street interface design. This paper uses the urban street interface as the object of study. When researching the reform and design of the street interface of Hanguang road in Xian, by using the theoretical research, field survey and some related theories of architectural typology, This paper researches and analyses the developmental process of the city and construction in Xian, induces the historic and architectural features of the city in Xian and sums up the advantages and disadvantages in street interface in Xian.
