ABSTRACTWlth the rapid development of computer networks and Int ernet，it has already become the development tendency for the infor mation system in the universities to use advanced MIS and softwar e development is platform to manage information scientifically．The discipline development is playing a leading role in the development of universities．Designed for the needs for network information man agement of the discipline development in Hunan University of Scienee and Technology,this paper tries to develop a“W．eb-based MIS for the discipline development,which applies the B／S structure and advanced Asp techniques SO as to have multi—level users and hi曲S ecurity features．Its functions involve a lot of aspects such as to loo k for and revise the information of all the prizes and appraisal of academic group，paper，scientific research projects，academic mono—g raph，textbook，scientific research and teaching and the discipline re search．At the same time，it puts forward the idea of applying the data mimng technology to the web--based MIS of the discipline de··velopment to make it more intelligent．This paper first outlines the basic concept and development process of MIS，introduces the technology of web and ASP,and illustrates the chioce of the development tools and then from the demand analysis to the database design，it gives a detailed and systematic design of software design period and finally comes up with a“web—based MIS of thediscipline development,which includes the information in quiries anddata management function．The design work involves the design of the frontand back-ground database．And at the same time，through a further exploration and research of concerned technology,it puts forward the idea to apply the data mining technology to the MIS of the disciplinedevelopment．Based on the database Access，this system uses ASP and IIS to establish web controls，and uses a modular method and ASP technology to break some function restrictions of static page and realize the d
