AbstractInthepatriarfeudualsociety,ancestralhall istheimportantarchitectureintheconsanguineousvillages.DongkouCountyisthefortressofancientwayconnectedHunanandGuizhou,ItlocatesinthesouthwestofHunanProvince,theeastofHsueh-fengMountainsandthe upstreamofZiShuiRiver.Afterthelengthydevelopmentprocess, therearemanyconsanguineousvillagesinDongkouCounty.Buildingancestralhallisaveryimportantthingfortheclosebranchesofapatriarchalclan.ThespecialgeographyandcultureofDongkouCounty bringtheuniqueancestralhallgroup.Atitsbest,thenumberofancestralhallsexceeds300.Nowadays,over40ancestralhallsarezealouslypreserved.Aftermanytimesin-placesurveys,theauthorchoosestwelveancestral hallstostudy.Onthebasisofanthropogeographyandculture,thewayofthestudyisillustrationandinduction.It’samazingthatDongkouCountry’sancestralhallgroupshowsitsoriginality,grand-scale,greatexpressiveforceandsuperbcraft.Atfirst,theancestral hallgroup wastheproductofpatriarfeudualsystem,whichisincloseconnectionwiththeformation,development,culminationanddecayofancestralhalls.Patriarfeudualculturewasthecrucialfactorintheformationofancestralhalls.Besides,singlebuildingssuchasthearchways,theatricalstages,thecentralhalls(placesforsacrificingceremonies),Qinhalls(placeswhereancestors’memorialtabletsareput)andbelltowers,whichfullyshowtheregionalcharacteristics,areinfluencedbydifferentculturesincludingTaoistCulture,Buddhistculture,cultureofQiyangoperaandwesternculture.Theyshowuniqueconstructioncharacteristicsinordertoadapttothelocalclimatefeaturesandregionalcharacters.Thepaper ismade upofsevenchapters.Inthefirstchapter,onthe base ofanoverallunderstandingofthecurrentstatusand resultsofthestudyathomeandabroad,theauthoranalysestheproblemsindetailthatpeoplehavewhentheydoresearchesonancestralhallgroupsaswellasthemeaningsofthestudy.Theauthoralsomakesthecontentsandpurposes ofthestudyclear.Besides,somefeasiblemethodsareputforward in thischapter.Thecausesareanalyzedinthefollowingchapteraccordingtosomebackgroundinformation.Themostimportantpar
