Gist(要点) Forrest Gump is a 1994 drama film based on a novel by Winston Groom that was written in 1986, and the name of the title character of both. The film was a huge commercial success, the top grossing film in North America released that year. Winston Groom The film garnered a total of 13 Academy Award nominations, of which it won six, including Best Picture, Best Visual Effects, Best Director, Best Film Editing, Best Adapted Screenplay(最佳改编剧本) and Best Actor. The film tells the story of a simple man and his epic journey through life, meeting historical figures, influencing popular culture and experiencing first-hand historic events while largely unaware of their significance, due to his lower than average intelligence. The majority of the film consists of Forrest sitting on a bench waiting for a bus and recounting his life story to a succession of people. His mother named him after Nathan Bedford Forrest, a noted Confederate general in the American Civil War and the first Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. She intended his name to be a reminder that sometimes we all do things that, well, just dont make no sense. Nathan Bedford Forrest was a major war between the United States (the “Union”北方联军) and eleven Southern states which declared that they had a right to secession(脱离)and formed the Confederate States of America(南部同盟), led by President Jefferson Davis. The Union, led by President Abraham Lincoln and the Republican Party, which had opposed the expansion of slavery into territories owned by the United States, rejected any right of secession. is the name of several past and present organizations in the United States that have advocated white supremacy, antisemitism(反犹太主义,反闪族主义), racism, homophobia(憎恶同性恋), and nativism(本土主义).
