The aircraft, which once flew rig workers to oil fields in the North Sea formed the centre piece of a public art exhibit commissioned by Mozart 2006 Salzburg from Italian artist Paola Pivi. Paola inverted the helicopter and placed it on display in the centre of Residenzplatzin the city. The Wessex was selected for its shape and size. Placing the helicopter on its head was a delicate engineering operation and included the installation of a special foundation plate in the Resindenzplatz to secure the main rotorhead, plus the attachment of invisible wires to safeguard against toppling. The system was tested in a hanger outside Salzburg before the helicopter was painted and moved to the display point.
