Famous Accountants across the World Famous Accountants Luca Pacioli Luca Pacioli (1445~1517 ) is an Italian mathematician and Franciscan friar, who is now known as the “Father of Accounting”. Mr. Pacioli is famous in the field of accounting mainly because of the great masterpiece he wrote——Everything about Arithmetic, Geometry, and Proportions ,in which he mentioned the concept of double-entry accounting for the first time. Charles Ezra Sprague Charles Ezra Sprague (1842–1912) was an early organizer of accounting profession. He was president of both the New York Institute of Accounts and the Union Dime Savings Bank. During his life time, Sprague invented Sprague Checkbook and devised a savings-bank system for testing the accuracy of accounts. Henry Rand Hatfield Henry Rand Hatfield (1866-1945 )is an American accountant. He once served as president(1919) of the AAA, which he helped form in 1916. Henry wrote numerous articles for professional journals and he authored a number of books including Modern Accounting and A Statement of Accounting Principles. A.C. Littleton A.C. Littleton(1886-1974 ) is a famous American accountant and educator. He wrote more than 200 articles for professional journals and authored a number of books including Introduction to Elementary Accounting(1919) and An Introduction to Corporate Accounting Standards(1940). William Andrew Paton William Andrew Paton (1889-1991 ),a famous accountant in US, was a founder of the AAA and the first editor of the journal The Accounting Review. He published more than 150 articles and books, including Principles of Accounting(1918). He received the AICPAs Gold Medal Award in 1944. Xie Lin(谢霖) Mr. Xie Lin(1885~1969) is the founder of China’s accounting system and the first CPA in our country. Mr. Xie received his bachelor degree of business in Japan and served for the Qing Dynasty after graduation. He wrote many famous books in accounting, such as
