As this amount of money is invested by owner, therefore, using equity capital doesn’t need to pay any interests, so the cost of usage is low. Equity Capital Potential risk To the providers of equity capital, they should be clear that when the company goes to liquidation someday in the future, they will lose the amount of money originally invested in the company. To the users of equity capital, they will bear the risk of paying dividends. Loan Capital Cost implication It refers to money that borrowed from a source (bank, financial institution) outside the business, so it is generated externally. As this amount of money is borrowed from others, therefore, using loan capital need to pay interests regularly and repay the whole amount at the maturity date. So the cost of usage is high. Loan Capital Potential risk To the providers of loan capital, they should be clear about that if the company goes down in the future, they should bear the risk of not obtaining all the amount of money back. To the users of loan capital, they should bear the risk of paying interests regularly regardless of whether the company makes profits.
