Computer network applica-tions can be plagued by a variety of software or hardware faults. These faults can be critical and costly in the debugging and deployment of networks. In general, fault management in computer networks comprises four steps: fault detection, fault localization, repairing and testing. Among these steps, fault localization has been considered the most important step of fault management. Therefore, we focus on the study of fault localization and proposed an approach based on Ant Colony algorithm to fault loca-lization in computer networks. We also evaluate the proposed approach by simulations, and show that our algorithm is superior to the other fault localization algorithms. With the rising of various network applications, users demand better quality of service. One of the most crucial issues is to maintain the network availability and reliability. Faults are ines-capable in communication networks, their immediate detection and isolation is necessary. It is not easy to do with network faults only by network operators in short time due to the complexity of the network. To shorten the fault localization response time and release network operators, automated fault management is an acceptable goal of Network Management System (NMS) imple-mentation for large-scale networks.
