ABSTRACTForsquaretubularjointwithhollowsection,localbucklingfailureusuallyoccursaroundthechord/braceintersectiononchordsurfaceduetoinadequateradialstiffnessofchordwhichisgenerallylowerthantheaxialstiffnessofbracewhenaxialloadisappliedonthebraceendoftubularjoint.Additionally,thatyieldstrengthandelasticmodulusofsteeldegradeconsiderablyatelevatedtemperaturemakesunprotectedtubularjointswithhollowsectiondestroyedeasilyintheconditionoffire.Hence,itisnecessarytostudythefireresistanceofsquaretubularjointsothatsomerecommendationscouldbeprovidedforengineeringdesignandnorm.Inthisthesis,thefireresistantperformancesoftwosquaretubularT-jointswithhollowsectionaretested.Duringtests,aconstantaxialloadisappliedatbraceendfirstly,andthentheT-jointisheatedinaccordancewithstandardheatingcurveuntilfailureofthejoint.Thetemperaturesontubesurfaceanddisplacementsofjointaremonitoredduringtest,andtheheatingprocess,failuremodeandfailureprocedureofT-jointunderfirearealsorecorded.Then,generalfiniteelementsoftwareABAQUSisusedtosimulatethefireresistantexperimentsoftheT-joints.Bycomparingtheresultsoffiniteelementsimulationandtests,theaccuracyandreliabilityoftemperaturemodelandforce/displacementmodelisproved.TheresultsofexperimentsandfiniteelementanalysisshowthatthewholefailureprocedureofsquaretubularT-jointwithhollowsectionunderfirecouldbedividedintothreestagescomprisedofexpandinganddeformationdecreasingofjointatthebeginningofheating,deformationincreasingcausedbydeterioratedmechanicalpropertiesofsteelwiththetemperatureincreasingandfailurestageintheend.(2)Thefailuremodeofsquaretubularjointwithhollowsectionatelevatedtemperature,whichissimilarwiththeoneatambienttemperature,islocalbucklingaroundthebrace/chordintersectiononthechord.Basedontheverifiedfiniteelementmodels,analysisonthefireresistanceof24squaretubularjointswithdifferentgeometricsisconducted.Thefailuremodeanddurationoffireresistanceofjointsareobtained,andeffectsofgeometricalparametersincludingα,β,γandτonfireresistanceofjointarealsoconcluded.Add
