EFFECTEVALUATIONANDMECHANISMANALYSISOFMODIFICATIONONA356ALLOYBYSBANDYABSTRACTThispapergivesanalysistotheinfluencesofSb,YandSb-Ycompositemodificationonthemorphologyofsiliconphase,mechanicalproperty,conductivity,thermodynamicparametersandthefrictionandwearpropertiesofA356alloybytestmeansofDSC,SEM,XRDanddiscussestheirmodificationmechanism.Theexperimentshowsthat:AddingSbtoA356alloycanturnsiliconintoneedle-likeparticleswhichismuchsmallerthanthesiliconwithoutmodificationtreatment,thephotographofelectrolyticcorrosionshowsthatthedistributionofsiliconisclose-spacedlamellarshapeinaluminiumsubstrate;AddingYtoA356alloycanturnsiliconintofibrouswhichismuchsmallerthanthesiliconofSbmodifiedA356alloy,thephotographofelectrolyticcorrosionshowsthatsiliconlookslikethecross-linkedcoralreefsandtheendsofsiliconbecomessmoothandevasivewithoutedges;AfterSb-Ycompositemodification,thesiliconalmostchangetoverytinyparticleform,thephotographofelectrolyticcorrosionshowsthatsiliconlookslikethewateryweedswhichisswingingwithwind,andnotonlytheendsbutalsoeveryanglesofsiliconisrounded.AfterT6heattreatment,thesiliconofmodifiedA356alloyturnsintoanumberofseparateshort-stick,sphericalandellipticalshape.Theydistributesingrainboundariesofprimarycrystalaluminumandturnsmoredispersethancastcondition.TheaveragesizeofsiliconbecomessmallerinproperorderaccordingtoSbmodified,YmodifiedandSb-YcompositemodifiedA356alloy.Thehardness,tensilestrengthandelongationofnon-modifiedA356alloyis36.3HBS,143.3MPaand2.5%respectively.Thehardness,tensilestrengthandelongationofSbmodified,YmodifiedandSb-YcompositemodifiedA356alloyis50.5HBS,222.9MPa,10.3%;76.3HBS,238.1MPa,5.5%;82.3HBS,263MPa,8.8%respectively.Thebiggestincreaseofhardness,tensilestrengthandelongationreaches126.7%,83.5%and312%.Theconductivityofnon-modifiedA356alloyis16.37MS/m.TheconductivityofSbmodified,YmodifiedandSb-YcompositemodifiedA356alloyis17.60MS/m,17.85MS/miiand18.50MS/m,respectivelyimproved7.5%,9.0%and13.0%thannon-modifiedA356alloy.TheDSCanalysisfoundthatintheordero
