VAbstractDiscoursemarkershaveattractedanincreasinginterestforlinguistsinlanguageproductionandcomprehensionsince1970s.Manyresearchersholdingdifferentopinionshave contributed a lotto studyof discoursemarkers, and innumerablearticleshave beenpublishedduring decades. However,fewofresearchershave taken functionanalysisofdiscoursemarkersontelevisiondramascriptcorpus.BasedontheRelevanceTheory,thisthesisdiscussedfunctionsofdiscoursemarkersinapragmaticway.Therearefivechaptersofthesis,includingintroduction, literaturereview,theoreticalfoundation,functionanalysisandconclusion.Chapter Oneintroducestheresearchstatusofdiscoursemarkers,includingbackground, significanceandobjectives.Chaptertwocontainsthepreviousstudiesofdiscoursemarkersbothathomeandabroad,studiesofdramaticliteratureandbackground introductionofcorpus.Nowadaysthethreemainapproachesondiscoursemarkers researchesinpragmaticfieldarecoherence-basedapproach,thegrammatical- pragmaticapproachandtherelevance-theoreticapproach,andeachonegivetheir explanationsaboutdiscoursemarkersonitsterms,definitionsandclassifications. Thisthesisisinfluencedbytherelevance-theoretic approachand didtheoreticalfoundationonchapterthree.Itdiscussesseveralmainpointsofrelevancetheoryon itsassertions,includingostensive-inferentialmodel,informativeintentionand communicativeintention,conditionsandprinciplesofrelevancetheory.Underits inspirationtheauthordividedfunctionsofdiscoursemarkersintothreetypesby fusingquantitativestudy withqualitative studytogether to analyzethe representatives ofover3000discoursemarkersinthescriptinchapterfour.Thefirstoneis ostensive-inferentialfunctions,discoursemarkersarebeingusedto indicateand expresstherealintentions,whichincludesindicatingtheintentionofexplanation, reminding,compromiseandhesitation.Andthesecondoneiscontextualfunction, whichmeansaspeakercandecodeinformationwithintentionandmakesurethehearercanchooseoptimalrelevancewithdiscoursemarkers,andtheninferafurther newinformationtohelpthehearertounderstandtheorigi
