AbstractReal-time communication of power grid dispatch automation system, Based on wide area networks, is a new topic for study and also a challenge to be dealt with. Traditional power system communication is not able to satisfy demands of applications in power system. Technology of optical communication, networks and computer has developed swiftly. Whether technology, environment or demands of the development, has created good conditions for research on real-time date communications eventually applied to dynamic monitoring network. An advanced network communication technology faster and more effectively applied to the power industry is an innovative issues of power communication especially in electricity market environment. Real-time date transmission network is inevitable trend. From a certain perspective, “who grasp technology of internet, the one who has mastered the future.”Based on OSI and TCP/IP reference model, the principle and technology of data communication network for the power system are introduced .The scheme of constructing data communication network for dynamic monitoring and control system is expounded. And papers from the initial planning of the network framework, elaborated the application of the real-time and non-real-time date in an integrated information network based on theuse of optical fiber over IP over ATM technology and wide area networks，analyzed andproved that the real-time ability of business date is able to meet the system requirements. And use of genetic algorithm improved communication system for communication delay, and achieved better results.After verification, the operational date of power grid dispatch automation system is capable of meet the demands of real-time ability and reliability in WAN communication model.
