The numbers of individuals facing disabling condition (including to cognitive impairment) increase. Family care givers provided a major portion of care giving in China. The influence of migration of working-age adults from rural to urban China has altered traditional intergenerational supports among elderly persons who remain in rural region. RESEARCH QUESTION Under the background of sustainable out-migrating of working-age adults from rural to urban China, how do intergenerational supports effect on the change of cognitive function of the rural elderly? Data and Methods Data from the survey of “Well-being of the Elderly in Anhui Province, China” conducted by the Institute for Population and Development Studies of Xi’an Jiaotong University. Longitudinal data from 3 waves- 2001, 2003, 2006 997 cases from the 3-wave survey Area Surveyed Location of Chaohu City, Anhui Province RESEARCH DESIGN Method Using Hierarchical Linear Model (HLM) to analyze the change Of cognitive function of the elderly. The analysis of individual growth represents a social case of the nested data structure, as multiple observations are nested within the individual subject (Bryk and Raudenbush, 1992).
