The words stream, creek, brook, and river are comparable in that each denotes a body of water flowing in a water course or channel. In popular usage, brook and stream are often used interchangeably. Stream: the most general word in this group, embracing all the other terms in its meaning. A creek: asmall stream. A brook: usually a primary stream ermerging from a spring.
