Department of Psychology’s Strategic Plan Under Vision Ohio Mission The Department of Psychology is committed to furthering the understanding of human cognition and behavior. It seeks to accomplish its mission in three interrelated ways. The first is by conducting research that is nationally and internationally recognized for its contributions to the field. The second is by offering outstanding undergraduate and graduate programs that produce students who are knowledgeable about psychology, who are capable of conducting psychological research, and, in the case of selected graduate programs, who are equipped with the expertise to provide psychological services to their clients. The third is by establishing an outstanding record of professional service not only to the University, but also to the local Athens community and to the broader Appalachian region. Research A. Vision Ohio Goal Support growth in scholarly activity and research productivity that leads to national prominence A.1. Psychology Goal Advance the national and international scholarly reputation of the Department of Psychology A.1.1. Strategic Goals Increase scholarly productivity Increase the impact of departmental scholarship Encourage scholarly interactions with colleagues at other institutions, including institutions located in other countries Encourage international research collaborations by enhancing support for international travel Provide funding for colleagues from other institutions to visit Ohio University for the purpose of establishing research collaborations with faculty members in the Psychology Department Provide an outstanding colloquium series that attracts nationally and internationally known scholars Increase participation in professional service activities for national and international organizations A.1.2.
