We would like to also mention an upcoming Inventor Roundtable here at the USPTO Headquarters on March 29th. Director Kappos will make opening remarks and then invite questions from the audience and those watching on the web. Expert 40:The term of a patent (other than a design patent) begins on the date the patent issues and ends on the date that is 20 years from the date on which the application for patent was filed in the U.S. (see 35 U.S.C.154). If the application claims the benefit of the filing date of an earlier U.S. application under 35 U.S.C. 120, 121, or 365(c), the end date is 20 years from the filing date of the earliest U.S. application.
