Levied to pay for armed forces. 1543 RICHARD BAYLBYN (Goods 1), THOMAS BAYLBYN (Goods 1) and LEWES BALBYN (Goods 1) included in SN Tithing: Newton (op. cit.) (SGL). 1544 RICHARD BAYLBYN (1) and THOMAS BAYLBYN (1) included in SN Tithing: Newton (op. cit.) (SGL). 1569 GEORGE BELBYN of SN included as a billman in the Dorset Muster Roll, which gave names of men in possession of arms and weapons. These men were to be mobilized for home defence if able. A bill such as George Belbin had was a weapon like a halberd, but with a hook instead of a blade. Will dated Sep 4. Occupation: yeoman. Legacies include ￡5 for the repair of SN Parish Church, 12 pence each “to everye poore bodie of SN” and ￡5 and 40 shillings for future relief of the poor.
