The heart governs the blood, provides residence for spirit and corresponds to fire. The kidney is the root of yin and yang. The kidney stores the essence and pertains to water. Heart fire and kidney water interact and maintain a balance. The heart fire exerts a restraining influence on the kidney yin and vice versa. Pathology A serious stage of disease (death) Shao Yin disease reflects heart and kidney insufficiency with diminished and impaired anti-pathogenic function. Two significant features of Shao Yin pathology Development of Shao Yin disease: 1) Direct attack of externally contracted pathogen (Zhi Zhong) due to weak kidney qi. 2) Transmitted from other channels due to incorrect treatments.
