At the same time, electronic correspondence in international trade remains the means and ways by which transactions in foreign trade are discussed. A good knowledge and ability of the people to use the communication process is always the critical factor in communication effectiveness and indispensable to foreign trade transactions. There are usually three types of electronic correspondence in international trade, they are telex, fax and E-mail. Telex refers to a message sent or received by the communications system that consists of teletypewriters connected to a telephonic network to send and receive signals. Fax, short for facsimile, refers to a printed page or image transmitted or received by a fax machine. Lastly, E-mail is a form of message transmission that business people use more frequently in the modern business world. Faxes and E-mails are the most popular means by which transactions in foreign trade are discussed, although they have some shortcomings. Therefore, we should learn how to use faxes and E-mails to facilitate our business activities. 62 Faxes A fax (sometimes called telescoping) is the telephonic transmission of scanned-in printed material (text or images), usually to a telephone number associated with a printer or other output device. The original document is scanned with a fax machine, which treats the contents (text or images) as a single fixed graphic image, converting it into a bitmap. In this digital form, the information is transmitted as electrical signals through the telephone system. The receiving fax machine reconverts the coded image and prints a paper copy of the document. 63 Specimens of Faxes Spicimen 1
