A brief introduction of the three sisters There were five girls and a boy in the Bronte family. Their father was interested and talented in literature, influencing Charlotte, Emily and Anne, who turned out to be famous novelists and poets of England. The Bronte sisters all went to school and then were taught by their father at home. They all accepted jobs as teacher or governess in their lives. They all died young of tuberculosis(肺痨病). Charlotte Bronte Charlotte Bronte (1816-1855),third child ,went to the Clergy Daughters School in 1824,which was used as the background of Lowood School in Jane Eyre. From 1839-1841:worked as a governess In 1846 :the three sisters published first poetry collection jointly: Poems by Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell In1847:Jane Eyre was published In 1849: Shirley was published In1853: Villette was published Emily Bronte Emily Bronte(1818–1848) was the fifth child , who wrote only to meet her own satisfaction instead of reputation. In 1824:went to same school with Charlotte’s From1838 -1839:worked as teacher at Law Hill School In 1842: joined a girls academy with Charlotte in Brussels and tried to set up their own school In 1847: Wuthering Heights was published Anne Bronte Anne (1820-1849), youngest child, was less recognized as Charlotte and Emily. In early life:went to boarding school for a few years and received courses such as music, drawing , piano and art In 1835:went to Roe Head School and won a good-conduct medal From 1839 -1845 :worked as a governess In 1840’s: wrote poetry and stories together with Emily In July 1847, Agnes Grey was published; Her second novel Tenant of Wildfell Hall was published the next year Writing Style: Gothic Gothic novel: one kind of fiction style, using melodramatic, dark, romantic, and often frightening elements Gothic romance: flourished in the late 18th and early 19th century in England.
