Executive Summary The objective of this paper is to help health care managers or physicians in assessing whether or not they are ready to implement an electron health record (HER) into their departments or clinics. This is an adjunct to the article, Health Systems: Improving with Information Technology, which was written by Laxmi Chekuri and Fredrick Schumacher. In the previous article, Chekuri and Schumacher describe the importance of implementing an integrated system of data or a standardized Electronics Health Record (EHR) system to promote interoperability among different health care organizations. System interoperability is important, because it facilitates an enhanced networking between patients and their health care providers and promotes an improved continuum of care for patients. However, the article does not inform readers whether or not health care providers are actually ready to implement EHR into their practices. Therefore, in addition to the paper, Health Systems: Improving with Information Technology, written by Chekuri and Schumacher, I will also include a step- by- step approach to guide health care providers in assessing where they are in their readiness to implement EHR into their practices.
