Two kinds of evaluations: Process evaluation: the reflective assessment that is an integral part of the ongoing learning process. Product evaluation: summative performance testing, aimed at gauging the learner’s current language competence, skills and attitudes in relevant communicative tasks and contexts. Process evaluation PK Product evaluation ? Process evaluation can exercise a powerful effect on affective language learning outcomes by enhancing the learner’s competence and confidence as a person. Intercultural competence as the broad goal of language education Definition: a symbolic, interpretive, transactional, contextual process in which people from different cultures create shared meanings. Components: respect orientation to knowledge empathy interaction management task role behavior relational role behavior tolerance for ambiguity interaction posture Experience and awareness in language learning and teaching Immediate personal experience is seen as the focal point for learning. Experiential learning emphasizes that theoretical concepts become part of the individual’s personal constructs only when they have been experienced meaningfully on a subjective, emotional level. Learning is internalized and transformed in the process
