外滩之概况,汇丰银行,海关大楼,和平饭店,中国银行The Bund * Tips for the Guide The Bund is a showcase of the city’s semi-colonial past [k?l??n??l] 半殖民地的过去 and its transformation in the new era. Known as “the Wall Street in the Far East” in the past, the Bund now symbolizes Shanghai’s intention to become a major financial capital in Asia. In the 1930s, it was described as the “Wall Street in the Far East” for the large number of banks and financial institutions located here. * Brief introduction In the 1990s, the Bund area underwent a great physical transformation, followed by a renovation completed in 2010. While restoring the Bund as the central business district, the municipal government also managed to highlight this area as one of the major tourist attractions. Along the riverfront where formerly there were docks, a promenade was raised
