PURPOSE : Explore the possibilities of an optical detector of periodic features in a roll mill manufactured by SIS. SCOPE : Installation and operation of a test unit in Trébol mill for 6 months. CONCLUSIONS : The detector is capable of detecting the roll marks on the mill, being a very useful and cost effective tool for the plant. It is recommended to further explore the possibility of installing a system in the 1400 line that experiences the higher rate of marks. Special care should be taken to avoid the problems encountered during the test in the production unit and guarantee proper service in the future. The system is highly recommendable to foil plants.
