Part 1 Analysis of the teaching material Part 2 Status and Function The passage “Dying to be thin…”is the development of Welcome to the Unit. It aims to give the students a better understanding of the topic of Unit 3 “Looking good, feeling good”. After this period, students can have a clear idea of the passage, knowing how to be healthy. Part 3 Learners analysis The number of the students(学生数) There are 52 students in the class, 30 boys and 22 girls. Language level( 语言水平) Most of them have the courage to voice their opinions, with only a few number of them failing to follow the teacher. Language interest(语言兴趣) The topic today is clearly related to their daily life which can activate their learning interest. Part 4 Teaching objectives Moral objective(情感目标) – To make the students aware of the importance of health, and thus to form a right attitude towards “looking good”. Knowledge objective(知识目标) – To enable students to understand the differences between “however” and “but”. Ability objective(能力目标) – To develop the students’ reading ability, especially the skills of skimming and detailed reading. Part 5 Teaching important and difficult points Teaching important points(教学重点) – To get the main ideas about the three emails. Teaching difficult points(教学难点) – Enable students to be aware of the importance of health. Part 6 Teaching methods and facilities Teaching methods(教学方法) – Task-based teaching method, pair work and discussion . Teaching facilities(教学手段) – A computer, a blackboard and a tape-recorder . Part 7 Teaching procedures Activity 1 Questions Look at pictures, and discuss: Suppose you are a bit over-weight, how would you lose weight? Activity 2 Discussion Talk about the advantages and disadvantages of various ways to lose weight. Then fill in the form.
