Colleges and universities,one of the main front, especially college students, create a large number of innovations. The establishment of protection mechanisms for Students’ innovation, become a pressing problem which we are facing. This article starts with defination and the characteristics of innovation, uses classification statistics and survey methods, reveals the protection status of the innovations and innovation achievement of college students, proposes protection strategies for Students’ innovation. Through classification statistics, survey questionnaire,analysis and demonstration,we could know that the number and level of current college students innovation achievement continue to increase, but protection state for them is poor. Intellectual property law should be added to Legal education of students, and training students awareness of legal protection for innovation. Students should recognize the importance of protecting innovation, understand the relationship between innovation and protection. We know that there is a long time to improve the students awareness and ability of the protection for innovation and develop effective protection strategies. This paper attempts to make some suggestions to improve the students awareness of the protection for innovation, including strengthening the cultural infrastructure for intellectual property law, appropriatly seting of intellectual property law courses, strengthening legal advocacy of intellectual property rights. Analysising the protection strategies for five kinds of innovation to guide students on the effective protection of innovation.
