As one kind of typical public buildings, art centers have some common characteristic, such as high headroom, big single space area, population concentration and high-density temporary personnel. Therefore, how to ensure the safety of this kind of buildings in recent years has become the focus of attention. The architectural structure of emerging art centre is complicated which combines a verity of functions of entertainment, exhibition and conference. Moreover, the single building is too big to conduct physical separation to the interior space, and this inevitably would cause many problems of fire protection design, meanwhile, this kind of building is also hard to meet the c urrent fire safety requirements. The common problems are: safety evacuation distance is too long, fire compartment areas exceed the standard he facilities of smoke control and automatic sprinkler cannot work as normal. On the basis of taking a certain art centre as an example, this thesis aims to carry on the research of common problems of fire protection design. Meanwhil e, this thesis conducts a study of fire safety of art centre by adopting a performance-based design, and discusses the problems of the installation of fire rescue entrance. This thesis studies fire safety problems of art centre by means of site investigation, theor etical analysis, software simulation and fire extinction drill test.
