Abstract The short-wave communication realizes the remote communication of signal relied on ionosphere reflection. As it can realize remote and global communication with relatively simple equipment, the short-wave communication is widely used in radio, emergency and military communication fields. In recent years, in order to ensure the favorable communication effect, with the rapid development of industrialization process and the constantly used of various frequency equipment, the continuous improvement of the electromagnetic background noise level within the scope of global, the power level of short-wave stations is raised respectively. The power level of the large short-wave stations has been reached tens of kilowatts. Even to the extent that hundreds of kilowatts, it brings certain influence to the health and living of those employees and the nearby residents. The radiation assessment method of the high power short-wave transmitting antenna and the protection technology is studied in this paper. This paper selects the curtain antenna and vertical antenna of high power shortwave radio which commonly used as research target, in which takes curtain antenna as a representative of the horizontal polarization, vertical antenna as a representative of the vertical polarization antenna, analyses the two different polarization antenna’s radiation characteristics and electromagnetic protection method. The specific contents are as follows: This paper first conducts the research to the curtain antenna and vertical cone antenna’s design principle, antenna structure and electrical performance. According to the antenna structure characteristics, we select the method of moments as the calculation method for the radiation characteristic of the antenna, introduce and analysis the base principle of the method of moments, the select of basic function and weight function and the solution by method of moments of the line antenna at the same time, establish the foundation for the
